New Year, New Gear. Perfect Audio for your event with Koko Brothers

Have you been to a concert lately?  Odds are if you have been to one within the last 5 years you have experienced the amazing sound of “LINE ARRAY” speaker technology.  I won’t bore you with all of the details about how it has exceptional clarity, amazing coverage or extraordinary power.  What I will tell you is that Line Array speakers are far superior to the traditional “point source” style speakers used by every DJ  you have ever heard.

In a nut shell what makes Line Array so great is that it is a cluster of speakers hung in a column with each section of a column only covering a small vertical pattern but very very wide.  Since the vertical pattern is so small it allows sound to be directed to specific points of the room which leads to flawless audio over an entire room at a consistent volume.    Have you ever been to an event or wedding and sat near the speakers and were blown out of your seat?  Or better yet, have you been at the back of the room and not able to hear a thing?  With Line Array technology those problems are a thing of the past.

If Line Array is so great then why doesn’t every DJ or sound company use it?  Well…..in a word price.  An average DJ point source speaker can range anywhere from $200-$1,400 per speaker and typically only two are used by the average DJ.  Line Array speakers start out at $2,200 and can cost as much as $9,000 per speaker and require a minimum of four speakers at an event.   As you see the price difference is enormous much like the difference you see when price shopping for your DJ.

At Koko Brothers Entertainment we stand behind our commitment to our clients to offer only the best in every way.  That is why we are proud to say we now offering the JBL VRX 932 LAP Line Array speaker to show our commitment to total excellence at your event.  We could stay with the “safe” DJ way of doing things but that’s not what we are about.   We strive to offer unique and custom things to our clients to ensure the perfect wedding, corporate event, school dance or any other type of event.  In fact Koko Brothers are the ONLY Disc Jockey company in Maryland to own and use Line Array technology for weddings.

With true benefits like perfect audio, custom designed lighting and Maryland’s best MC and DJ wedding team how could you not afford to hire Koko Brothers for your special day.   Koko Brothers Entertainment providing unparalleled service and quality for over 20 years.  Schedule an appointment today to learn more about our services and why we are Maryland best wedding DJ’s.

Working with professionals

The biggest factor in planning a great event is making sure you hire professionals.  At Koko Brothers we have over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry and when we tell you we have seen it all…trust me….we have.  In fact Lou and I often say we should write a book about our experiences.   In this blog I would like to share  two stories from the past couple of weeks to help you understand the value in working with true professionals.

The first story is one of the more extreme examples and is very unfortunate.   Koko Brothers were hired to provide lighting and sound for an event in Queens, New York.

Koko Brothers Entertainment

Koko Brother Entertainment of Maryland in Queens New York

We have worked with this client before and we were all looking forward to another great event together.  The venue the client selected for a fund raiser was a catering hall and the owner assured them all of the details would be taken care of and things would go smooth.  As it turned out things were anything but smooth.  Just 15 minutes into the event NYPD showed up and stated that the owner did not have the correct liquor license to hold such an event.  Since he was not present to prove otherwise and would not answer any phone calls the event was cancelled on the spot by the police department.  The lesson here is sometimes what you see is not necessarily what you get.  Ask the important questions in advance, get it in writing and don’t always think the best price is the best value.  Needless to say we were all disappointed and it was a night that was ruined by a vendor who was not qualified.

Roy's Hawaiian Fusion Baltimore, MD

In contrast I would like to share some insight on an event we were hired to DJ this past Saturday night for Network Building and Consulting LLC. held at Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Restaraunt located in Baltimore Maryland.  This was an example of how a professional delivers service and quality.  We arrived at 4:30 for the 6:30 event to find the management giving a briefing on all of the details for the evening.  Not only did management go over the timeline with the entire staff, they stated and I quote, “Network Building chose to be here again this year and we have to deliver the best meal and service they have ever experienced.”  This level of service is exactly what you should look for in all vendors you hire.  While you as the client don’t often get to see the behind the scenes details and time before your event, this is one of the key reasons Koko Brothers always set up extra early for every event.  Arriving early gives us invaluable time to compare notes with other vendors and is another element to ensure success.  As you would imagine the night was perfect and the staff  delivered the “aloha” spirit for a truly great corporate holiday celebration and as always, Koko Brothers delivered on the dance floor.

Are you as hungry as I am now?

If you have any questions about hiring the right professional please feel free to contact us anytime.  As Entertainment professionals we can not only deliver the perfect entertainment but also help guide you to avoid some very common mistakes in planning your event.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Delivering An Important Message

As you know Koko Brothers have been fortunate to work with many great clients in our 20 plus years.  It was a true honor to be selected again this year to provide the video projection system for the Jews Against Terrorism event this past Tuesday.  This event held at Beth Tfiloh was organized by the visionary Rochelle Kaplan of the Lubavtich center in Pikesville.   When delivering such  an important message it is vital that the audio visual support be in place to effectively convey the message to the guests and that is why Koko Brothers were selected again this year to provide a 9′x12′ screen and projection system.  The large screen was highly visible from all points of the room and allowed the guests to see a video about the organization and it’s new educational center.

Liquid Sounds Mike Lang provided audio for the event and worked seamlessly with Koko Brothers entertainment in delivering a perfect performance.   The education and enlightening evening was a memorial to all of the victims of the 9/11 tragedy.  Rochelle Kaplan and the organization do an amazing job at putting together a powerful message with excellent key note speakers.   Last years key not speaker was Judea Pearl, father of Daniel Pearl the American journalist who was killed in Pakistan.

Tech Talk with Koko Brothers Entertainment

Tech Talk with Koko Brothers

Much like computers the changes are endless in the lighting, sound and video world.  The trend for years has been LED lighting.  While new innovative things were being done with LED it lacked the brightness we have come to expect out of our extensive lighting inventory ….until now.

With new fixtures like the Martin Mac 101, Elation Impression RZ, GLP’s Spot and Blizzard Lighting’s Torrent  90 the playing field is finally equal.  At Koko Brothers we take pride in offering our clients the best in equipment and innovative event solutions.   With that said the search is on!!  We currently are in the process of evaluating and will be for some time over 12 different LED fixtures to replace our existing intelligent lighting inventory.

What does this mean to our valued clients?  First and foremost we are going to be GREEN!  Our existing 575 watt moving lights consume one twenty amp circuit per two lights.  With the equivalent LED fixture we will be able to power up approximately 18 lights on a twenty amp circuit.  This means far less energy consumption as well as the new flexibility to add LARGE light shows to venues that have limited power available.

One of the major details in planning for events is the amount of power available.  Typically we have to connect an electrical sub panel to the venues main electrical panel to produce enough dedicated electric to our lighting.  With LED lighting we can now power up a good size light show off the existing wall outlets in any given room….even at your home.    The most important benefit is cost savings!  Not only will it save on electric but our setup time will be reduced since electrical sub panels will not be required and wiring is faster….a big savings we will pass on to our clients.

If you have an interest in these or any other lighting sound or video products please contact us for more information regarding sales, rental and installation.  We are excited about the future and will keep you posted on the testing!

Do you know Koko Brothers Entertainment?

Do you know Koko Brothers Entertainment?

You may know the faces of Lou and Angelo but do you know exactly what we do at Koko Brothers Entertainment?  Let’s take you through a week in the life of Koko Brothers to better understand what we are and exactly what we do

In any given week Koko Brothers will be a part  of  any combination of amazing and uniquely different events.  Every Monday starts with event planning and equipment preparation.  For this week, Tuesday was set up and a rehearsal for a truly great event which was held on Wednesday.  Koko Brothers Entertainment provided large screen video projection systems and lighting to honor Maryland’s first lady of education Dr. Nancy Grasmick, superintendent of Maryland Schools.  This amazing event to award Dr Grasmick was put together by the wonderful staff at Baltimore’s Port Discovery.   Koko Brothers worked with the winning formula of event planner, Charleen Sherman and Mike Lang of Liquid Sound to make this event possible.   Koko Brothers were responsible for many logistical details from editing video content with Port Discovery’s Leslie Borenstein and Michelle Winner to rigging 40’ of truss over head to allow for video projection in a small space to accommodate enough floor space for the 250 attendants.   Many well know Baltimore icons were present to speak such as Baltimore’s Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake, Baltimore Ravens head Coach John Harbaugh,  WJZTV channel 13’s news anchor Gigi Barnett and thanks to the video systems of Koko Brothers a special video speech was given by Sesame Street’s Elmo.   It was a great night to honor the hard work of Dr Grasmick’s efforts to help educate all of Maryland’s children and make our public school system number one in the nation.   Thank you Dr. Grasmick!

On Thursday Koko Brothers were part of the sell out performance of certified GOLD recording artist N*E*R*D.  The event held at Baltimore legendary live venue Sonar was a great performance in which Koko Brothers Entertainment provided an extensive inventory of 575 watt moving head lights,LED wash lights and control for the concert lighting system.  Sonar’s Dave Garman contacted Koko Brothers looking to add brighter and more lighting fixtures to the existing system as per the desires of the band.   Working with well know lighting designer and programmer Dave Garman is nothing new to the Koko Brothers in fact you can find Dave on many of our shows and DC/Baltimore shows looking to create amazing lighting effects.    The eclectic sounds of N*E*R*D were brought visually to life with an amazing light show.  N*E*R*D has performed at the famous Virgin and South by Southwest Festivals and have been featured with fellow stars like Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Kanye West, Timbaland and Lupe Fiasco.  In the studio they have been responsible for making other artist shine as being the hit producers and remixers know as “THE NEPTUNES.”  The Coors Light sponsored event was a huge success and the night ended perfectly with the hit song “Rock Star.”

All of these events are not possible without lots of planning and preparation and Friday was a long day of preparation of over 124 lights and dry ice foggers for the wedding of Pete and Ashley.  This beautiful reception was held at Martin’s Valley Mansion  in which Koko Brothers Entertainment provided DJ and MC services as well as a truly romantic lighting design consisting of Ashley’s color scheme of pink and champaign.   Uplighting provided a transformation of the ballroom to create a truly unique look every bride should experience on her wedding day.    Each of the gorgeous red and white rose centerpieces were  light up with pin spots to make a breath taking view of the ballroom as they stood nearly four feet above the guests tables.    Moving lights were utilized to highlight the introduction of the bridal party, cake cutting, textured lighting as well as the couple amazing first dance.  Koko Brothers provided a custom look which was described by many guest and the priest as dancing on the clouds.  We provided 10 pink floor lights to color the Low Lying dry ice fog which covered the entire dance floor for the couples first dance as the moving lights created subtle moving white stars.   After an amazing meal by the staff at Martin’s Koko Brothers got the dance floor packed and created the perfect energy on the dance floor as well as the perfect atmosphere.
